Tray handles occupy the space formerly occupied by the teeth, so it does not project like a bayonet. (I know what the metal tray handles look like.)

The handles should be made to fit your hand. They should not interfere with the lips or with the borders of the tray.
Make sure that the tray handle is firmly attached. You can use some monomer to make a seamless connection to the base. (Use the Air Barrier to mold the handle to the tray when using light cured acrylic.) Handles will break off just at the wrong time...wasting your time.
