Amblyopia: Dimness of vision, especially when occurring in one eye without apparent physical defect or disease. Also called lazy eye.

Detached retina: A detached retina is a medical emergency. If you have a lot of 'floaters' and lightning-like flashes in one or both eyes, seek immediate treatment. Do not expect to see well the day after retinal surgery. Also the method used to retain the position of the retina (a bubble of air) will prevent you from working for at least a week.
